Portable Storage for Moving in Grand Junction: A Grand Valley Guide

Moving somewhere in the Grand Valley? You can rent a Gooder Box, a mobile storage container for your move, from our Grand Junction yard on US-6 And 50. We set it in your driveway and you or your movers fill it on your own schedule. Then we haul it to your new home in the valley, or keep it at our yard until you’re ready. The Grand Valley is a great place to land. You’ve got orchards and vineyards on one end, red-rock canyons and bike trails on the other, and Grand Junction right in the middle. Whether you’re moving across town, from Fruita to Palisade, or anywhere in the Grand Valley and the areas we serve, a little planning goes a long way.

Here’s a plain-English guide to moving in and around Grand Junction with a Gooder Box, from our yard on US-6 And 50.

Why a Moving Container Works Well in the Grand Valley

Most moves don’t line up neatly. Closings slip, a rental ends before the new place is ready, or you’re trying to pack around work and kids. A mobile storage box takes the deadline out of it:

  • No truck to drive. We handle the driving with our truck and trailer, and our remote-controlled delivery bot sets the box down level right where you want it.
  • No rush. Load over a few days instead of racing a rental-truck return time.
  • Easier loading. Ground-level loading with less than a 6-inch step, no ramps, and double swing doors with a 5’8″ wide x 6’6″ tall opening.
  • One load. Load once at your old place, and unload once at the new one.
  • Storage built in. If your new place isn’t ready, we can pick up your loaded box and keep it at our Grand Junction yard until it is.

Moving Around the Grand Valley

The valley runs along the Colorado River and I-70, and our Grand Junction yard delivers mobile storage across all of it.

Grand Junction

Grand Junction is the largest city on Colorado’s Western Slope, sitting where the Colorado and Gunnison rivers meet. Whether you’re moving across town or anywhere in the Grand Valley and the areas we serve, a Gooder Box works the same way.

Fruita

On the west end of the valley, Fruita sits near Colorado National Monument and is known for its mountain biking. If you’re moving with bikes, camping gear and a garage full of outdoor stuff, plan for that gear when you pick a box size.

Clifton

Clifton sits between Grand Junction and Palisade, and it’s served from our Grand Junction yard like the rest of the valley.

Palisade

On the east end of the valley, Palisade is known for its peach orchards and vineyards. If your property has a long driveway or a gravel pad, think about where the box will sit before delivery day.

Beyond the Valley: Parachute, Montrose, Delta and the North Fork

Our Grand Junction yard also serves:

  • Parachute and Battlement Mesa, heading east on I-70
  • Montrose and Delta, to the south and east
  • The North Fork Valley: Hotchkiss, Paonia, Crawford and Somerset

You get the same Gooder Box and the same process. We drop it at your driveway, you load at your pace, and you keep it on site or we store it at our Grand Junction yard.

Moving up I-70 toward Rifle, Silt or New Castle? Those towns are served from our Glenwood Springs yard. Moving between towns we serve, say from Grand Junction to Glenwood Springs? Call (970) 510-6464 and we’ll walk you through your route and the delivery fee.

How a Gooder Move Works

  1. Schedule delivery. Pick your Gooder Box size and a delivery date.
  2. Load on your time. You or your movers load the box, with no truck-rental clock running.
  3. Keep it or we take it. Leave the box on your property, or we pick it up and keep it at our yard.
  4. Final delivery. When you’re ready, we bring it back or deliver it to your new address.

If your things are stored at our yard, you can get to your box when you need it, and after-hours visits are scheduled with us ahead of time.

Picking the Right Size

We have two sizes. The 16-foot Gooder Box typically fits 1 to 2 bedrooms, up to about 1,200 sq ft. The 20-foot box typically fits 2 to 3 bedrooms, about 1,200 to 1,600 sq ft. Larger homes or full garages may need two boxes. For a full comparison, read our guide to the 16-ft vs. 20-ft Gooder Box, or see the sizes and specs.

Planning Your Spot: Driveways, Permits and HOAs

Pick a reasonably level spot, like a driveway or a gravel pad, with clear access for our truck and trailer.

Most driveways don’t need a permit. Street placement, or placement at a multi-family property, may need a permit from your town (often called a right-of-way permit), and HOAs can have their own rules, so check with them before delivery. We’re happy to walk you through any questions.

Moving in Grand Valley Summer Heat

Grand Valley summers get hot, and that affects both you and your things. Every Gooder Box is a secure, weather-resistant box with stainless hardware, a corrugated ISO-style roof that sheds rain and snowmelt, and an insulated spray coating on the interior roof that helps keep summer heat down.

A few general tips for warm-weather moves:

  • Load in the morning or evening when it’s cooler, and keep water handy.
  • Like any storage, avoid packing heat-sensitive items such as candles, aerosols and some electronics.
  • Pack things clean and dry, and use sturdy bins with lids for smaller items.
  • Keep important papers, medications and valuables with you instead of in the box.

A Simple Moving Timeline

  • A few weeks out: Decide what’s going, what’s being sold and what’s staying. Call us to talk through size and timing.
  • A few days out: Book your delivery. We like a few days’ notice, but sometimes we can do the day before or even the same day if you call.
  • Delivery day: Clear the driveway and the path to your spot.
  • Loading days: Load heavy items first and against the walls, and put the things you’ll need first near the doors.
  • Move day: We pick up the box and deliver it to your new address, or keep it at our yard until you’re ready.
